Fabric Hats

High on a hill in Vermont’s Green Mountains, I can step out my door and snowshoe, hike and backcountry ski for miles. This love for playing outside is a large part of the inspiration behind the Vermont Mad Hatter.

The other part comes from my art background. For the last 25 years I’ve climbed ladders and staging all over New England as faux painter, muralist and custom stenciler. Now I get to play with colors and patterns in the wools, chenilles and fabulous faux furs that I sew to create warm and stylish hats that I hope will make your winter warmer and brighter.

With an Irish/English heritage, I’ve got the wool gene! I grew up with wool and still take such pleasure in pulling out my woolies come fall. And I take a lot of pleasure also in choosing the wools, faux furs, chenilles, yarns, linings, trims and buttons that go into making each hat. I sew all of my hats one at a time with thoughtful care and joy in my craft.
