Utilitarian Stoneware Pottery

Rising Meadow Pottery was established in 1998 when my wife and accomplished potter, Diane Rosenmiller, and I found our home in Middletown Springs, Vermont. Since then we have slowly converted the mid-19th century farm to a contemporary pottery. Facilities include a variety of electric, gas and wood kilns, studios, a classroom and a gallery. In 2009, I completed the construction of an efficient single chamber wood burning kiln. This kiln has rekindled our passion for the wood firing process that began while undergraduates in art school at the New York State School of Ceramics at Alfred University. The use of locally harvested renewable fuel from area sawmills compliments my ongoing use and experimentation with regional minerals as raw material for glaze ingredients. Stones such as slate, yellow ochre, granite, marble and ilmenite are used to color and create the glass in my glazes. This approach to “digging local” has helped me to stay true to the folk pottery traditions that have helped shape and influence my personalized pottery aesthetic.
