I use local Vermont wood such as white oak, ash, spalted sugar maple, silver maple burl, cherry, hop hornbeam, black locust, walnut, elm and butternut, primarily harvested or salvaged from my and neighboring land.

“Woodturning is about curves and curves fascinate me. A beautiful curve can give a sense of movement to a static object, creating a sudden feeling of tension in the observer and releasing it just as quickly. I strive to incorporate these qualities into my work.”

Joe Maiorano

My name is Joe. My woodturning obsession started around ten years ago when I took an intro to turning class at the Brookfield Craft Center in Connecticut. I was an active member of the Nutmeg Woodturners League until I moved to Vermont four years ago. While I enjoy all aspects of turning, recently I have been making a lot of twice turned bowls.
